Bus will pick up in the shuttle pick up area below the Sky Bridge. Loading at 7:45 a. m., departs at 8:00 a. m. Bus will return approximately 1:00 p. m.
The tour of the Southern Regional Water Supply Facility( SRWSF) will explore the resilient and sustainable infrastructure solutions the Orange County Utilities( OCU) have implemented to reduce operational costs and its carbon footprint. The SRWSF serves approximately 80,000 people in the South Water Service Area, which includes four satellite facilities and one booster facility. Water is sourced from the lower Floridian aquifer via eight production wells.
Orange County Utilities is dedicated to sustainable water, wastewater, and solid waste services. As envisioned in Orange County’ s Sustainable Operations & Resilience Action Plan, the OCU portfolio of solar array projects affirms this commitment. The floating solar array at SRWSF, unveiled on March 16, 2024, is the largest in the southeastern U. S., featuring 2,236 panels that produce 1.9 gigawatt-hours annually. This innovative project reduces energy costs by up to 20 % and cuts CO2 emissions by 1,500 tons each year. Installed on water to minimize the impact on land and wildlife, the array is engineered to withstand harsh weather conditions, including sustained winds up to 50 miles per hour and gusts reaching up to 130 miles per hour.
