There is no better time than right now to invest in expanding care access and research focus for people with Parkinson’ s. According to a study published in the BMJ earlier this year, researchers estimate that the number of diagnosed cases of Parkinson’ s disease will grow, surpassing 25 million people diagnosed by 2050— a 112 % increase in disease incidence since 2021. This growth stresses the importance of training more Parkinson’ s clinician – researchers: Experts who not only care for people with Parkinson’ s, but also lead research informed by their patients’ most pressing needs and bring research advances directly back to those patients.
“ The Edmond J. Safra Fellows give people hope— hope that life can be lived well with Parkinson’ s, hope for treatments that can change the course of disease, hope for a future without Parkinson’ s,” said Dr. Dolhun.
