Thomas Gasser is a professor of neurology and director of the Department of Neurodegenerative Diseases at the Hertie-Institute for Clinical Brain Research in Tübingen, Germany. He is also a research group leader at the Tübingen site of the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases. Dr. Gasser’ s research focuses on the genetic and molecular basis of Parkinson’ s disease, including the mapping, cloning and functional characterization of Mendelian genes and the identification of common genetic variability in sporadic forms of the disorder. Along with collaborators, Dr. Gasser received the 2024 Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences for research into genetic risk factors for Parkinson’ s disease.
Victor Fung is professor of neurology and motor control at Sydney Medical School at The University of Sydney, and director of the Movement Disorders Unit in the Department of Neurology at Westmead Hospital in Sydney, Australia. He is president of the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society( MDS), and a past president of the Movement Disorder Society of Australia and New Zealand. Dr. Fung has clinical and research interests in Parkinson’ s disease and movement disorders, with over 250 peer-reviewed publications and an h-index of 61. He has helped train 40 movement disorder fellows, including two Edmond J. Safra Fellows.
