24th Annual Charles H. Selman Memorial Golf Tournament: A Hole-in-One for Hospitality Education
Anchorage, Alaska— June 13, 2025 – At the picturesque Anchorage Golf Course, the 24th Annual Charles H. Selman Memorial Golf Tournament swung into full gear on Friday afternoon. As the sun dipped into Alaskan daylight, more than just drives and putts defined the event; it was a celebration of community, purpose, and the power of partnership.
Held each year by the Alaska CHARR Educational Fund to benefit the Charles H. Selman Scholarship, the tournament honors the legacy of Charlie Selman— hospitality pioneer, restaurateur, and industry champion— whose vision helped shape Alaska’ s hospitality landscape
Why This Year Was Exceptional
With more than $ 50K raised in 2025 alone, the tournament continues its tradition of fueling opportunity. Proceeds benefit the Charles H. Selman Scholarship Fund, which supports Alaska students pursuing hospitality, tourism, brewing, and management careers. Individuals train through degree programs, certificate courses, and industry apprenticeships— putting them on the fast track to success.
The Alaska CHARR Educational Fund has evolved over time to deliver not only scholarships but also apprenticeships, industry training programs, and community partnerships supporting job-readiness across Alaska’ s hospitality sector. Many of these programs rely on the Alaska Department of Labor State Training and Educational Program( STEP) grant, covering approximately 70 % of program costs(~$ 300,000), making industry-specific training accessible to nearly 1,000 workers annually.
