call a spade a spade, thankfully I’ m in good health and I can still show them some things in a more direct way and demonstrate things. In 10, 20 years, I’ ll have different strengths that will be just as important, but for now I’ m happy to be able to use the coaching strengths that I have now.”
PLAYER PERSPECTIVES
Strong leadership on the field will be just as key to Breck’ s transformation as the new faces on the sideline. There is a promise of both forces doing their job with a positive class of 2026 stepping up to the plate.
Senior running back and linebacker Alex Averbook told Sun newspapers that the Mustangs feel good about the pace of the changes led by the new coaching staff and new captains.
“ We’ ve already seen some of the changes that needed to happen and the program is turning around really quickly with all changes happening,” Averbook said.“ We worked hard this summer to make that happen and be prepared. … The work started in the weight room for sure, but it’ s also just been about being ready to practice out here every day, being prepared, focusing on that one percent improvement each day.”
Fellow senior Oliver Kuhn also noted the excitement at Breck for a new chapter, one that holds promise for major improvements with time.
“ We’ re super pumped, super excited about this new group,” Kuhn said.“ I think we’ re going to have a great season and I’ m feeling really confident in what the coaches and players
are all bringing right now. … It’ s been pretty easy to see improvements already, obviously a game we lost by 10 last season isn’ t going to flip to a win by 50, but we’ re focused on getting better every day and we’ re seeing the benefits of that.”
Kuhn also added that this year’ s senior leaders are looking to learn from past lessons and provide leadership that is based on their own actions on and off the field.
“ I’ ve learned that you need to lead by example, you need to show people what it looks like to be a Breck football player, what it means to be a player that looks like they want to win every game and put in the work,” Kuhn said.“ That’ s the message I’ ve tried to pass on, that you’ ve got to give 100 percent every day, whether that means a win or not, you need to give your all to the challenge.”
