COMMUNITY GUIDE 2025

Police remain immersed in the community

The mission of the St. Louis Park Police Department is to provide citizens with quality service, professional conduct and a safe environment in which to live, work and learn. The police department is committed to an active partnership with the community to work together to solve problems and prevent crime.
Officers build relationships with community members through a variety of community outreach activities, including Neighborhood Watch, National Night Out, Basketball in the Park, Fishing with a Cop, Coffee with a Cop, Citizens’ Police Academy, Skateboarding extravaganza and Twins game day with students.
The department, which began in 1934, has 63 sworn officers, six community service officers and 18 additional staff members, including administrators, support staff, dispatchers and a community liaison.
In 2025, the St. Louis Park Police Department welcomed its second K-9 officer, Rolo, a Belgian Malinois / German Shepherd mix. Rolo was sworn in during the springtime, though he wasn’ t required to raise his right paw.
The St. Louis Park Police Department started their K-9 program in 2023 with the addition of K-9 Maverick. Known for their incredible sense of smell and locating abilities, K-9s can find evidence, explosives, drugs or people much more efficiently and effectively than police officers. K-9 officers also help to resolve dangerous situations in a safer and more effective manner.
In an emergency, individuals should dial 911 whether it’ s related to a police, fire or medical issue. The city maintains
its own dispatch center that answers more than 50,000 calls for service annually. If anyone sees a crime being committed or sees something suspicious, call 911 or the non-emergency number at 952-924-2618. The department’ s crime tip line is 952-924-2165.
St. Louis Park’ s police officers must meet the minimum requirements of a postsecondary degree from a regionally accredited college and complete a board-approved Professional Peace Officer Education program. Alternative routes to becoming a police officer in St. Louis Park include the cadet program and Pathways to Policing program.
The police station, at 3015 Raleigh Ave. S., across from St. Louis Park City Hall, houses the emergency communications and 911 center, administrative offices, training and meeting rooms.
As part of Hennepin County’ s coordinated medicine disposal program, a medicine dropbox is available in the police department lobby 24 hours a day, seven days a week for the disposal of prescription, over-the-counter and pet medicines. To provide police officers with resources in the neighborhoods they serve, the police department operates three substations( COP Shops) throughout the city.
