Stillwater a city steeped in rich history
Stillwater, known as the birthplace of Minnesota, is rich with history. But it is far from stuck in the past.
Events like Lumberjack Days celebrate the St. Croix Valley’ s history in logging with new elements each year.
In a tradition that dates back decades, the Washington County Historical Society holds an ice cream social each January and hosts many informational programs throughout the year.
A 2023 event took advantage of construction on Main Street to recreate a historical photo of a street dance in Stillwater. The next year, the event was held again with added twists to celebrate the newly completed pedestrian plaza and hold a formal dinner on the historic lift bridge. This May

event is becoming another beloved tradition that represents both Stillwater past and present.
Downtown Stillwater, full of locally owned shops and restaurants, maintains its historic character while offering modern experiences.
Annual events evolve each year to honor history while also modernizing.
Seasonal festivals, an array of art experiences, plenty of parks, and numerous options for shopping, dining, and lodging, the community comes together to make Stillwater a wonderful place to live, work, or visit.
