Skate park coming
The City of Stillwater has been planning to add a skate park to the numerous parks amenities offered.
There is a small skate park near the Stillwater Recreation Center, but the location can be tough to get to without a car, and many skaters are not of driving age. Local skaters also criticize the existing skate park for as being outdated and not well-maintained.
Due to this lack of a great skate park, skaters will use the sloping streets of downtown Stillwater to fill their need for speed.
Of course, skating down a steep street is not the safest option. For skaters in Stillwater, however, it may be the more fun option. Soon, that will change. A skate park to be located just north of Teddy Bear Park in downtown Stillwater is in the works.
Mayor Ted Kozlowski is a skateboarder himself and has been vocal about wanting to give residents and visitors a good place to skate, and one that is accessible to kids.
There is also talk to erect a dedicated graffiti wall there, to curb graffiti of historic downtown and provide an outlet for budding artists.
