Princeton Police Department

The Princeton Police Department provides public safety and community services for the City of Princeton . The department consists of 12 full-time officers , up to six reserve officers and two full-time clerical support staff .
The Princeton Police Department was formed in 1877 when the Village of Princeton elected Detective William Martin as the first law enforcement figure . The police department moved to a new home in 2014 at 305 21st Ave . S ., a public safety building it shares with the Princeton Fire Department . In addition to the new police and fire building , the Princeton Police Department brought back its K-9 program in 2013 .
In 2018 , the Princeton Police Department joined the Sherburne County Drug Task Force , which specializes in drug-related investigations and preventing drug trafficking .
In addition to its K-9 officer , the department also has its own detective who investigates a variety of case types .
Chief Todd Frederick leads the department with Sgt . Ryan VanDenheuvel as second in command .
Reserve officers are volunteers who assist the department with patrol and events within the city . The reserve officers are a vital part of providing public safety and community services during such events as the county fair , downtown events and festivals . Being a reserve officer is a positive experience for someone planning a career in law enforcement or criminal justice .
The Princeton Police Department assists Mille Lacs and Sherburne counties when they have need for assistance .

Princeton Fire & Rescue Department

The Princeton Fire and Rescue Department sits west of the city and shares the Public Safety Building with the Princeton Police Department at 305 21st Ave . S . The department also has a substation in Wyanett Township northeast of Princeton . The department , which is more than 125 years old , has 37 dedicated volunteer firefighters from Princeton and area townships that are on-call 24 / 7 . Princeton Fire and Rescue responds to hundreds of calls yearly . The non-emergency number is 763-389-2410 .
The department ’ s service area consists of the city of Princeton and the townships of Princeton , Greenbush , Wyanett , Spencer Brook and Bogus Brook . It covers 179 square miles and approximately 18,000 residents . Princeton Fire has statewide mutual aid , as well as mutual-aid agreements with departments in Mille Lacs , Sherburne and Isanti counties . A fire board made up of representatives of these entities meets monthly to give input on the department ’ s operation .
Princeton also participates in the Minnesota Radiological Emergency preparedness program . If there should ever be an evacuation from the Xcel Energy Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant , the City of Princeton would be a relocation site for the citizens near the plant .
