COMMUNITY GUIDE 2025-26
Crystal is home to about 22,000 and is a fully-developed, first tier suburban community located just a few miles west of Minneapolis. The 5.9 square-mile city borders the communities of Brooklyn Park, Brooklyn Center, Robbinsdale, Golden Valley and New Hope.
The city’ s recently refurbished 12-acre Becker Park offers basketball and pickleball courts in the summer and ice skating in the winter. The park draws many visitors to the downtown area around Bass Lake Road and West Broadway, where one will find a variety of restaurants, retail outlets and businesses.
At the 10-acre Welcome Park, visitors will find a lighted field for softball and a hockey rink, which were built in 2018.
Crystal is a home rule charter city with a council-manager form of government. The seven-member city council typically meets on the first and third Tuesdays of the month. All regular council meetings are cablecast on CCX Media and available on-demand at crystalmn. gov.
Crystal Police Department officers protect and serve the community through several community-focused programs and initiatives. A new police station was completed in 2022 on the city hall campus at 4141 Douglas Drive North. The building features efficient and safe work spaces, including a centralized evidence storage area; secure indoor fleet storage; a dedicated space for K-9 officers; and an up-to-date detention space. Chief of Police and nearly lifelong Crystal resident Brian Hubbard stepped into the role in June 2025.

Calling Crystal home

West Metro Fire-Rescue District provides fire service to both Crystal and New Hope.
Crystal has more than 260 acres of parkland with amenities for all seasons, including sports fields, tennis courts, playgrounds, skating rinks, a disc golf course and a skate park. The Crystal Cove Aquatic Center reopened with much fanfare in 2025 after being closed for renovations the year before.
Crystal is served by Robbinsdale Area Schools District 281 and is home to Beacon Academy, a K-8 public charter school; RiverTree School, a private elementary school; and St. Raphael Catholic School.
The community houses Rockford Road Library, which is part of Hennepin County Library. The library is located next to City Hall, and has programming for all ages like Computer and Tech Help, Family Storytime, Adult Coloring and more.
The Crystal Airport, a small aviation field, is also located within the city.
Each year the airport in partnership with the City hosts a Father’ s Day Open House and Fly-in, where aviation enthusiasts can get up close to helicopters and planes, grab a breakfast spread from the Crystal Lions Club and watch the planes fly into and off the runway.
The Crystal Business Association meets monthly. The city also is home to the NEAR food shelf, Lions, Kiwanis, VFW, Crystal-New-Hope-Robbinsdale Rotary clubs and Crystal Little League organizations, plus an active Facebook-based group called The Light of Crystal.
