Sports are strong for youth and everyone

The Robbinsdale Cooper Hawks and Robbinsdale Armstrong Falcons maintain a range of competitive athletics teams throughout the school year, ranging from their pair of rival football teams in the fall to their shared co-op boys and girls hockey teams in the winter.
The Hawks and Falcons football teams have made a tradition of meeting every year in the section 5AAAAA championship game, dominating their other section opponents. Armstrong has won the majority of those games recently, though Cooper made the deepest run of either team this decade in 2021, reaching the state semifinals at U. S. Bank Stadium.
The rivals have several successful co-ops in addition to hockey, like girls soccer and the boys swim and dive team. The schools also find plenty of excitement in individual sports
and regularly send athletes to events like the state track and field meet. Armstrong girls tennis and swimming have also been a regular bright spot in the fall, always one to watch in the section playoffs.
The Breck School, housed in Golden Valley, also adds some zest to the high school sports scene. The Mustangs have been most competitive in boys basketball, reaching the state tournament in 2024 and 2025, winning the class AA championship in the prior.
Local sports are well and alive outside of high school too, with multiple cities in the area hosting town ball teams and local events like Crystal Frolics and Robbinsdale Whiz Bang Days playing host to energetic softball tournaments that draw a crowd every year.
