Three Rivers in the quad cities
With 27,000 acres of parkland, 43 lakes, more than 30 miles of rivers and streams, and more than 8,000 acres of wetlands, the Three Rivers Park District provides year-round opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors across the west metro area.
Sochacki Park is located at 3500 June Ave. N., Robbinsdale, and is accessible from 5 a. m. to 10 p. m. every day. The park is an urban oasis that includes 37 acres of land in Robbinsdale, and the Rice Lake and Mary Hills nature areas in Golden Valley. The amenities include picnic tables, a one-acre dog offleash area, park shelter and a meandering paved trail running the length of the park, which will provide future connections to regional trails in the area. The park is operated by Golden Valley and Robbinsdale and the Park District.
Regional bike trails connect to many other communities across Hennepin County. Most Three Rivers Parks provide picnic areas, dog trails, canoe and kayak accessibility, and are open to geocaching, a high-tech game of hide and seek using GPS receivers.
Outdoor recreation classes and activities are offered throughout the year at most parks.
One of the best ways to explore year-round is to head out for a hike on the extensive trail system in Three Rivers. Trails wind through the woodland, grassland and wetland habitats of many species of wildlife.
In the spring, summer and fall, hikers can choose between paved bike / hike trails and unpaved hiking-only trails. In the winter, plowed and snow-packed trails are available.
Three Rivers also engages first-tier communities such as New Hope, Crystal, Robbinsdale and Golden Valley through pop-up outreach programs. Activities are often free or lowcost and are created through partnerships with local parks and recreation departments.
Established as an independent, special park district by the Minnesota State Legislature in 1957, Three Rivers maintains park reserves, regional parks and regional trails in the western Twin Cities metro area.
The name Three Rivers is derived from the parks’ location within the watershed flowing into the Mississippi, Minnesota and Crow rivers.
