Outlook

( Continued from page 3)
The Ponies face a more familiar opponent in Week 2 while traveling to Park for another non-league game. Stillwater defeated the Wolfpack 45-17 a year ago for its sixth consecutive victory in the series, which the Ponies lead 35-10 all-time.
Park, which finished 2-7 a year ago, racked up nearly 335 yards per game, but also allowed more than 310. The Wolfpack will miss quarterback Miskir Esayas, but expect to return leading rusher Kody Aikens, who averaged 6.4 yards per carry on the way to 586 rushing yards and nine touchdowns.
The Ponies are 0-2 in their history against Week 3 opponent Shakopee, which relies on a bruising running game and sturdy, physical defense. The Sabers, who defeated Stillwater 34-7 in 2019 and 49-0 in 2020, have a strong cast returning. Junior safety / linebacker Blake Betton has numerous Division I offers, including one from the University of Minnesota, but Shakopee also returns fellow highly regarded juniors in linebacker Andrew McGee and defensive lineman Nehemiah Ombati.
The Sabers also boast capable running backs with Christian Peris and Joseph Taye.
Stillwater closes out the regular season with five straight Metro East Sub-District games, starting with Mounds View in Week 4. The Ponies defeated the Mustangs 33-14 for their biggest win last season last and have won 9 of the last 10 in the series. Prior to that current run, however, Mounds View defeated the
Ponies in 11 of 13 games from 2006 to 2014 and still leads the all-time series 26-22.
Mounds View is the only current Metro East team with a winning record against the Ponies, who are a combined 132- 62-3 against East Ridge( 8-5), Forest Lake( 26-7), White Bear Lake( 62-41-3) and Woodbury( 36-9).
