POLICE DEPARTMENT
Established in 1958, The Plymouth Police Department’ s mission is to provide superior protection and service by reducing crime and enhancing the quality of life expected by the community.
The department is led by Chief Erik Fadden and currently serves residents with 119 employees, including 82 sworn employees and 37 civilian employees. It is made up of administration, patrol, professional standards, services and special operations. Administration includes crime and fire prevention, community engagement and education, public safety office support representatives, and a public safety analyst. Patrol includes one captain, eight patrol sergeants, and 45 officers. Patrol also includes special assignments such as K-9, SWAT, traffic unit and community service officers. The services division includes investigations and a special investigations unit. The special operations division includes school resource officers, training, licensing and special events.
The department engages the community through various outreach and education programs, including the Public Safety Citizens Academy, Night to Unite and DARE.
Community members are always encouraged to learn about the operations of the police and fire departments through the city’ s Public Safety Citizens Academy. The free program aims to strengthen the partnership between public safety professionals and the community by sharing information and promoting a better understanding of police and fire services. The course spans 12 weeks, meeting from 6-9 p. m. on Thursdays. Each week, a different aspect of public safety will be featured through presentations and hands-on demonstrations about police and fire operations.

FIRE DEPARTMENT
The Plymouth Fire Department provides innovative fire suppression, technical rescue, hazardous material response and fire education programming to residents, businesses and visitors in the City of Plymouth. The full-service department operates with a staffed station program and a traditional page-out system from three fire stations.
The fire department has grown along with Plymouth’ s population, leading to a growing demand for service. Plymouth’ s first fire station and fire truck came to the city in 1960. At that time, 15 volunteer firefighters and several officers were part of the department.
In 2022, the department had 35 part-time / on-call and 19 career firefighters covering the city from three stations. Five administrative command officers manage personnel, operations, logistics and training. The fire chief also serves as the fire marshal and coordinates two career inspectors and four part-time inspectors. The fire department responds to an average of 5,500 calls annually, including all types of fires, medical emergencies, traffic crashes and other emergencies.
Two fire stations are staffed 24 hours a day and the third station is utilized for part-time / on-call backup response. The department has made significant investments in two fire stations to better accommodate firefighter staffing and improve Plymouth’ s emergency preparedness.
Annually, Plymouth firefighters spend thousands of hours training and promoting education throughout the community.
The fire department, among other public safety entities, is active and present at many community events. Department staff can be found at local events like Night to Unite, where firefighters promote education and fire prevention to children and families through neighborhood parties throughout the community. The department also participates in classroom prevention presentations at local elementary schools.
