Story of the Year: A Healthy Kidney for Lanie
In 2025, Renown Health performed the first kidney transplant in northern Nevada. Until then, patients had to leave the community to receive this level of care.
For Reno native Lanie Hope Smith, this changed everything. As a teenager, she became seriously ill after an E. coli infection led to kidney failure and the need for a transplant.
In August, Lanie received a healthy kidney from her mother, Melanie Davis, becoming Renown’ s first living kidney donor recipient.
Since then, our highly skilled teams have performed two additional kidney transplants, expanding access for more patients.
