PRESENTING LORI FAITH WEBER AS CANTOR AND TEACHER IN ISRAEL
Presented by Cantor Michael Kasper
Lori Weber began her AJR cantorial studies in the Spring of 2015. The road has been long but the path has been straight, consistent, and with one goal in mind, ordination as a cantor. Along the way, she has served several congregations, each time with dedication to the needs of her community and each time with distinction. Lori has proven herself to be a consummate professional, someone who can be counted on to raise the level of prayerful davening and to bring a seriousness of purpose to her role.
Born with a love of music she has been singing her entire life. Following on the heels of her undergraduate work she earned a master’ s degree as a music therapist from the prestigious Steinhardt School of New York University where she studied with Dr. Alan Turry, a gifted teacher and therapist to whom Lori introduced AJR. However, after working for some time in the field, Lori made the decision to follow the conviction of her heart that serving the Jewish community was a calling she could not ignore. Her entrance into the Academy’ s student body was met with appreciation and delight by fellow students and the faculty who taught them.
Lori’ s love of the Hebrew language is not lost on anyone who has heard her. She chants our religious liturgy and sings the repertoire of the Jewish people with equal parts devotion and joy. She finds ways of incorporating popular Jewish melodies into services and is a huge admirer of Jazz standards and the American songbook. But the thing that gives Lori the most joy is helping to bring shaky b’ nei mitzvah students to a place of real confidence when they stand up and apply the newly acquired skills they have worked so hard to hone. Nothing makes her happier than to watch her students shine!
Lori will follow her ordination with a new position as Cantor at the New City Jewish Center in Rockland County, New York. I have not one doubt that we will be hearing great things from her, and about her, in the years to come.
