After a stellar 29-win season and a deep postseason run, the Sloan-Hendrix Lady Greyhounds return nearly everyone and are ready to pick up right where they left off. With all five starters returning, experience, chemistry, and confidence are at the heart of what could be another big year for Coach Mitchell Wilson’ s squad. Senior guard Hayden Matheny is a proven leader who can play on or off the ball, averaging 11 points, 2 assists, and 2 steals per game last season. Junior guard Emery Spence adds outside shooting and scoring consistency, while junior point guard Alexis Davis is the team’ s defensive spark plug and floor leader, putting up 13 points, 2 assists, and 2 steals a night. Junior forward Kaylee Jines brings inside strength and rebounding with 9 points, 6 boards, and 2 blocks per game, and sophomore Rylee Brown adds versatility as a scorer, passer, and rebounder— averaging 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists last season. Coach Wilson emphasizes that the team’ s success will come from mental and physical toughness, a commitment to rebounding, and a winning mindset. With adaptability, speed, and a tight-knit core, the Lady Greyhounds have everything it takes to chase another title this season.
The Sloan-Hendrix Greyhounds have had a lot of recent success inside one of the state’ s toughest conferences in the 2A-2 and the state’ s toughest 2A region. This season, with several key pieces back for Coach Daniel Bates’ squad, the Hounds are looking to improve on last season’ s 24-13 record and get back to the state tournament. Two All-State guards return to lead the way for the Greyhounds. Hudson Rorex is a senior combo guard that averaged 20 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assist per game last season. Dallas Durham is another senior guard who averaged 16 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals a contest. Coach Bates is looking for these two to lead the Hounds deep into March.“ Hudson ' s greatest strength is his mind,” Coach Bates explained.“ He understands the game as well as any player in the state. His work ethic is off the charts as well. He is such a great leader for us on and off the floor. He controls the game and is really like a coach on the floor. Dallas biggest strength is his motor. He carries this with him every day, even in practice. Also, Dallas ' mentality is such a benefit for our team. He never backs down from anyone, and constantly puts pressure at the rim. He makes everyone ' s job so much easier because he is so good at finding other people easy shots.” Fellow senior Colton Sexton is back at center after averaging eight points and eight boards last season.“ Colton ' s biggest strength is his ability to control the paint,” Coach said.“ He has really developed into a great rim protector. He makes everyone take tough shots at the rim and it really changes the game for us.” Senior Cole McCall and junior Caden Hickman should step into bigger roles this season.“ Being a senior Cole has really developed into a really good shooter for us,” Bates said.“ He spaces the floor really well and has worked really hard at becoming a knockdown shooter from three. He also gives us a lot of toughness on both ends of the floor. Caden ' s biggest strength is his work ethic. He is a really good defender, who we expect to guard the other team ' s best guard on most nights. Coach Bates is looking for execution to be key inside the state’ s toughest 2A conference.“ The key to success for us this season is our attention to detail,” he said.“ If we do the small things right every single night, I believe we will find a lot of success. I know this team is going to work hard, we just have to make sure we execute. All of the players are locked in and playing with a chip on their shoulder. They really want to make this season special.” Six of the top ten teams in the state were in Sloan-Hendrix’ s region last year, and it won’ t be any easier this year. But, the Sloan-Hendrix Greyhounds proved they can play with anybody and should be in the conversation for a deep run in the postseason come March.
