The Corning Lady Bobcats enter the new season with renewed confidence, a healthy roster, and a belief that the pieces are in place to turn things around. Under head coach Wesley Couch, this group has embraced a gritty identity built on toughness, hustle, and teamwork. Leading the way is senior guard Katie Karr, who returns from a torn ACL to reclaim her spot as the emotional leader of the team. Karr is dangerous getting to the free-throw line and has the shooting touch to stretch defenses. Fellow senior Abby Staggs is a steadying presence— she does all the little things that make a big difference. A true“ coach on the floor,” Staggs brings leadership, awareness, and selfless play every possession. Junior Gracie Townsend is the engine of the Lady Bobcats’ defense. After leading the team in assists and steals last season— and finishing second in rebounding— her quickness and grit make her one of the most valuable players on the floor. Sophomore Navaeh Neal adds energy and spark on both ends, often guarding the opponent’ s top scorer. Neal’ s ability to attack the rim or pull up from mid-range gives the Lady Bobcats another exciting scoring option. Coach Couch loves his team’ s toughness, hustle, and defensive mindset, but says limiting turnovers and finding consistent scoring will be key to their success. With growing experience, solid leadership, and a group that believes in each other, Corning looks ready to make strides in the 2A-3 and prove that this year’ s Lady Bobcats are a team on the rise.
The Corning Bobcats enter the new season with a fresh look and plenty of energy under head coach Wesley Couch. While the team has no returning starters from last year’ s squad that finished second in both the 2A-3 Conference and district tournament, this young group of six juniors and ten sophomores is eager to prove they belong. Leading the way are juniors Jake VanNada, Caden Sweaney, and Connor LeGrand, all key contributors from last year’ s rotation. VanNada has put in serious work in the weight room and will anchor the paint with strength and confidence on both ends of the floor. Sweaney brings quickness and a dangerous first step that lets him attack the rim and guard the opponent’ s top perimeter players. LeGrand adds more speed and has refined his outside shot to become a steady two-way presence. A strong sophomore class will also be critical to the Bobcats’ success. Hayden Leonard is a pure shooter who can score from anywhere and has worked hard to become a complete player. Bennett Davis, at 6’ 4”, provides size and athleticism inside, while guards Jayden Woodard, Jackson Jett, Dawson Leach, Rex Shourd, and Jagger George all bring hustle, shooting, and energy to the rotation. Coach Couch says this team’ s depth, toughness, hustle, and speed will keep them competitive night in and night out. The biggest challenges will be their lack of height and varsity experience— but their willingness to learn and play hard gives the Bobcats every chance to grow quickly. With a deep bench, fast pace, and a group hungry to prove itself, Corning is building something exciting— and this year’ s fight could lay the foundation for something special.
