Donald Perry takes over as the head coach for the Marked Tree Lady Indians as they come off a successful 28- 9 campaign making their way to the 1A State quarterfinals. Coach Perry will have three starters returning to try to continue this successful run that the Lady Indians have had over the last few years. All-State guard Alyssa McGuire leads the way for Marked Tree. McGuire is a two year starter who can shoot it from anywhere on the floor and has a good basketball IQ. Arya Nesbitt is back at the guard spot where she showcases good ball handling skills and does a great job of getting her teammates involved. Another two year starter returning is Lakrissa Dupree. Dupree is a versatile player that can do a little bit of everything, has a very good basketball IQ, and is a leader for this team. Several others will look to step up into bigger roles and provide some depth. Senior Zakaria Brown is a good shooter and finisher around the rim from the guard spot and will provide some depth in the backcourt. A trio of sophomores will look to make an impact at the high school level. Ava McCuiston, Kay-Lee Fink, and Madison Daniel should contribute for the Lady Indians. McCuiston provides an inside presence along with Daniel. Both are good rebounders and can affect shots in the paint. Fink can hit the outside shot and should help out on the perimeter. The 1A-3 will be tough this season, and Marked Tree’ s region is the toughest in the state at that classification. If the Lady Indians can make it out of that, they will have a chance to make a postseason run. Coach Perry knows what the keys are for success.“ Our keys to success will be how well we defend and rebound,” Coach Perry said.“ I believe we will be able to score the basketball. Our team strengths are communication, understanding their roles, and they love playing with each other. We may lack size and front court depth, but we have a lot of heart.” Look for the Marked Tree Lady Indians to battle in the 1A-3 conference and get back to the regional tournament in hopes of making another post season run.
After a 28-win season, the Marked Tree Indians are looking to keep their winning ways rolling under head coach Barbara Wilburn. With a mix of experienced seniors and exciting underclassmen, the Indians have the tools to make another deep run— if they can come together quickly. Junior forward DJ Stacy returns as one of the team’ s top shooters and two-way players after averaging 10 points, 2 assists, and 3 steals per game last year. Senior guard Chaffee Monsalud brings steady leadership and strong ball-handling, while senior Lyric Watson and senior Decorious Brown add depth and experience. A talented sophomore duo— Dontavous White, a lightning-fast slasher, and KD Dupree, a sharp outside shooter— will inject youthful energy into the lineup. Coach Wilburn believes the team’ s chemistry and willingness to be coached will determine just how far they go. With speed, athleticism, and pressure defense as clear strengths, the Indians have the talent to compete with anyone in the 1A-3. As their young players gain experience, Marked Tree could be a team no one wants to face late in the season.
The Wynne Lady Yellowjackets enter the new season hungry, hardworking, and determined to build on last year’ s regional tournament appearance. Head coach Bobby Lewallen returns a talented core that may be young, but it’ s a group full of shooters, competitors, and players who truly want to succeed. Junior standout Japhia Light headlines the roster after averaging 14 points per game a season ago. A smooth ballhandler and tenacious defender, Light has sharpened her outside shot and looks poised to take another big leap. Senior Angel Baskins sets the tone with her leadership and relentless work ethic, giving Wynne a steady presence in every practice and game. The Lady Yellowjackets will rely heavily on their perimeter firepower, led by sophomore sharpshooter Brooklyn Lattimore and junior Zoey Brown, both capable of heating up from deep. Sophomore Mariah Jackson brings size and three-point shooting, while senior Madison Turpen adds a jolt of energy and scoring punch. Sophomore Karrington Wiley is a versatile all-around player who always seems to make something happen on the floor. Wynne may lack size, making rebounding a must-win battle each night, but Coach Lewallen believes this group’ s heart, shooting ability, and desire to grow will keep them in the mix. If the Lady Yellowjackets continue improving game by game, they have a real chance to surprise teams across the 4A-6.
