where I am today. They have showed me the ways to life and been very patient with me. I love them very much and blessed I was brought into their life!”
In the states, Neal has a been a force on the floor. Amare has earned All-State, All-State Tournament, All-Region, All-Conference, All- NEA, and All-Kell Classic multiple times throughout his career. Tuckerman head coach Josh Longino can’ t say enough about his point guard for the last four years.“ Amare is the definition of what it means to wear a Tuckerman uniform,” Coach Longino said.“ He’ s lived up to the standard set before him by the alumni and laid out the blueprint to the younger players of what it means to be a Bulldog. Outside of his ability to score or assist, what stands out the most is his ability to build confidence and lead a bunch of guys to reach a collective goal. He’ s achieved just about every accolade possible during his high school career. However, when the ball stops bouncing for him, hopefully no time soon, he’ ll be able to look back on all of his experiences through sports and be able to apply them to his life post basketball. That’ s what truly matters. Amare is a generational person / player and will be missed tremendously!”
Amare will play for Georgia Southern out of the Sunbelt next year. Neal felt the Eagles were the best fit for him.“ The recruiting process was a long journey for sure,” he recalled.“ I had five division one offers: Mississippi State, Troy, Sam Houston, UAPB, and Georgia Southern. I decided on Georgia Southern because I just felt that the coaches and the program were a great fit for who I am as a person and as a player. People always say go where you ' re wanted, and Georgia Southern made it clear I was wanted there and the feeling was mutual!”
It is safe to say that a family that brought home a young child from Ethiopia and loved him changed the course of local history. Not only did Amare Neal’ s parents change his life, Neal in turn changed their life and impacted the lives of so many in Tuckerman, Arkansas. Amare Neal’ s impact goes far beyond basketball, but it was hoops that was and will continue to be the catalyst for Amare to impact so many.
