positions, and executing are going to be extremely important.” Other teams such as Walnut Ridge and Hoxie will prove to be tough as well. For Reynolds, he knows that every game is important.“ I want to give the team my best. Would I love a state championship? Of course, it starts with the first game.”
In addition to being one of the best football players in Northeast Arkansas, Luke is one of the top baseball players as well. Often Newport is overlooked by the media. Reynold’ s numbers were simply too good to ignore as he was selected as Best Under the Sun. He deserves the accolades as his coaches asked him to be the guy that does it all.“ My coaches refer to me as a“ super utility player.” I am a pitcher and leadoff batter. Depending on who is pitching, I play catcher, short, second base, or center field. It is humbling to receive accolades within a region. Newport is a small town so to be noticed for achievements means a lot.”
While football is right around the corner, baseball is a big part of Reynold’ s life and he’ s hoping for a good season on the diamond.“ Like in football, the baseball team has played together since t-ball. We know each other, live within minutes of each other, and are friends. We graduated some great guys like Ethan Norris, Jack Sampson, Jake Keedy and Hayden Tarwater, but I think the remainder plus the guys that moved up in extended baseball this summer will be successful next season.”
Luke has been surrounded by football his entire life and is a born and bread Newport Greyhound.“ My dad was Defensive Coordinator for the Greyhounds when I was born, so I have always been a Greyhound. I remember him breaking down film before HUDL, explaining the game to me in a way I would understand when I was little, and then even more complex when I grew older. My older brother was a great player and now coaches me on the field as part of the staff. Greyhound sports is part of who I have always been. Whether it is football, baseball, or golf.” Not only does he get great advice from his football oriented family but he plays for one of the best in Brian Reardon.“ To be coached by a person who is a conference and state champion means a lot to me because he knows what it takes to be great. He cares about the team not just on the field but also our lives off the field.”
“ Luke leads the team by example, shows up early every day, works hard, and does all the little things right,” said Greyhound Head Coach Brian Reardon.“ He’ s a true dual threat QB, and I expect a big senior year out of him.” The ceiling is high for Reynolds after a record setting junior year. Northeast Arkansas fans should expect another star studded year and the Newport Greyhounds to make noise across the Natural State.
