The Cedar Ridge Timberwolves finished last season 10-2 earning the first playoff victory in school history before falling in the state semifinals to eventual state champion Strong. Now, Coach Scott Morgan will look to replace some key positions with some returning talent to make another run at an 8-man football title. All-State returners Jonas Elms and Wesley Horton lead the way for the T-Wolves. Jonas has been a wide reciever the past couple of years, but will move to quarterback this year. Last season, Elms did it all throwing for 542 yards and six touchdowns, rushed 79 times for 470 yards and seven touchdowns, and had 34 catches for 410 yards and seven touchdowns. Horton was the centerpiece on defense with over 100 tackles and 10 sacks.“ He ' s the focal point of opposing offenses, and doesn ' t lose many one and one battles which

helps free others up,” Coach Morgan says. Horton will handle the kicking duties, while Elms will be the punter. Other All conference returners include Cash Martin( RB / LB) and Bentley Bullington( WR / LB). Both of these guys are two year starters on defense. Martin had 75 tackles last season. Martin will also be the starting running back this season after totaling over 300 yards as the primary backup last season. Bullington is switching from Corner to LB this year. He led the team in interceptions las t season, but his size allows him to play more of an inside role this year. He also had over 20 catches last year on offense and l ooks to improve on that number. There is a lot to be excited about in Newark.“ We want to continue where we left off last season,” Coach Morgan said.“ We lost a key group of guys, but we are fortunate enough to have a good number coming back who have shown they work hard and can win. Numbers are the ultimate concern. If we can stay healthy and keep guys on the field, we can compete with anybody and that ' s all we ask for.” The Cedar Ridge Timberwolves should be a force again in the 8-Man North, and will have a shot at War Memorial this season.

The Piggott Mohawks are looking to turn their program around and see improvement this upcoming season. Coach Clinton Haley’ s squad will have to navigate one of the toughest leagues in the state in the 3A-3. Four year starter Ben Latimer will return behind center for the Mohawks. Running backs Noah Clemmons and Levi Moore will tote most of the running load for Coach Haley’ s run heavy attack. Braden Moore, Zane Wallace, and Colton Akridge will anchor the front line to create space for Latimer, Clemmons, and Moore. Those same names will appear defensively as Latimer, Clemmons, and Levi Moore will be the linebacking corps, while Braden Moore, Wallace, and Akridge will lead up front. Several sophomores and new faces will help on the defensive side of the ball. If the Piggott Mohawks can play physical, control the tempo, and stay healthy, they should see some improvement this season and hope for it to equate to some victories.
