With over 70 years of boat-building experience, Rozema Boat Works has established a reputation for delivering high-performance, rugged aluminum vessels ranging from 20 to 90 feet in length. Alle Rozema founded the company in 1956 after immigrating to the United States from the Netherlands. He started out building wooden boats. His son, Clarence, joined the business and now the founder’ s grandson, Dirk( lower right), leads the company. Fourth-generation members of the family, now in college, work there during the summers. The business in Bayview, west of Mount Vernon, does mostly metal fabrication these days. Rozema Boat Works builds oil-spill response vessels, commercial fishing boats, tugs, yachts and more. The company does the design, construction and outfitting, delivering boats to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and as far away as Kuwait. During the Manufacturing Week visit, they were finishing a large oil spill response vehicle that will be delivered to Delaware.
