LAKEVILLE

COMMUNITY GUIDE 2025-26

Lakeville welcomes new facilities

Lakeville’ s history revolves around Lake Marion, Antlers Park, the railroad and its connections to the greater Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The city has been one of the fastest growing communities in the state for many years. With a population of around 78,000, Lakeville also has an active and growing business community, with over 1,500 businesses and several industrial and business parks.
The 38-square mile city has more than 150 miles of pedestrian and bike trails, over 1,700 acres of public parks and open space, 70 public facilities and seven beautiful lakes. An arts center, the Heritage Center for seniors and other groups and a wide variety of recreational opportunities add to the community spirit.
Lakeville’ s history spans to 1858, the same year Minnesota became a state. Established as a township and a village, the two finally incorporated to form the City of Lakeville in 1967.
The city of Lakeville is managed by a mayor and a City Council. They meet at 6:30 p. m. the first and third Monday of each month at City Hall, 20195 Holyoke Ave. Council meetings are televised and available for online viewing. Lakeville City Council members are elected at-large to represent the entire community and are empowered by law to legislate citywide policy. This includes the authority to pass and enforce ordinances, establish public and administrative policies, create advisory boards and commissions, and manage the city’ s financial operations, including preparing
a budget, auditing expenditures and transacting other city business as required by law.
The City Council appoints a City Administrator who directs city staff on implementation of council decisions and oversees day-to-day city operations. Residents are served by several departments: Administration, Community & Economic Development, Engineering, Finance, Fire, Liquor Operations, Parks & Recreation, Planning, Police and Public Works.
Residents can find a wide range of information on the city’ s website, LakevilleMN. gov, including useful information if you have just moved to the area. The website has a calendar with city programs, events and meetings, information for obtaining permits, ordinance data, the latest information on Parks & Recreation and Arts Center programs and much more.
