“ Move-Out Donation” Program
ODU’ s Move-Out Donation Program closed out the academic year with purpose and generosity— collecting more than 3,200 pounds of donated items for students and local nonprofits.
Led with Purpose
Spearheaded by Kara Boone and the Service-Learning team, this year’ s program exemplified what’ s possible through collaboration and care. With support from the Center for Career and Leadership Development and Housing & Residence Life, donation bins were placed across campus, and items were collected, sorted, and delivered by a dedicated team of student and staff volunteers.
Student Leadership in Action
May 2025 graduate Britney Kouassi played a pivotal role in expanding the program’ s nonprofit partnerships. Drawing on her experience in the Service- Learning Suite, Britney helped extend the program’ s impact to include three new community partners— specifically local animal shelters that received much-needed towels, bedding, and other donated items.
Volunteerism Across Campus
From the Dean of Students Office to Academic Advising and the Center for Career & Leadership Development, faculty and staff showed up with sleeves rolled— many reconnecting after their service together during ODU’ s Alternative Spring Break in March. Their commitment to community continued through Move-Out, reflecting ODU’ s culture of service.
Total Impact: 3,256 pounds redirected from landfills to support students and the Norfolk community. A powerful reminder: giving back is always in season at ODU.
