ODU Launches 24 / 7 Global Mental Health Peer Support Program for Students
TalkCampus is a 24 / 7 peer support platform to foster connection and well-being among students . Led by the Office of Counseling Services under Joy Himmel , this initiative addresses challenges like isolation and lack of companionship , as highlighted in the Healthy Minds 2023-2024 report . Accessible via mobile app , TalkCampus offers a safe , anonymous , and multilingual space for students to share experiences and receive support . The platform is moderated round-the-clock by trained peer supporters and professionals , ensuring a secure environment for authentic self-expression .
With coverage in 26 languages across five continents , TalkCampus aligns with ODU ’ s mission to enhance students ' mental health . Its impact is significant — 86 % of users find it easier to ask for help , and 79 % report better coping with life ’ s challenges . Joy Himmel noted that this resource complements ODU ’ s well-being services , providing support whether students are on campus or off-site for internships or rotations .
