Former state legislator, Florida Governor and United States Senator, he invested 38 years in public service. He was the driving force behind Florida’ s growth management initiatives and his leadership in promoting a constitutional amendment that allowed the state to issue taxexempt mortgage revenue bonds paved the way to the creation of the Florida Housing Finance Agency. In Congress, he successfully promoted tax credits for affordable housing.( Elected to Hall in 2005)
