responders, we are continuously looking for organizations that would benefit from specific types of equipment. For example, nursing homes would strongly benefit from SciFit Bikes, which focus on rehabilitation,” Cera explained.“ Donating equipment always comes to mind before kicking off a re-equip. We often keep lists well ahead of the date knowing what communities we can make an impact in. This is a very rewarding part about these projects.”
Keeping a running list of donation partners can be helpful when seeking opportunities for equipment donations, which is the approach for Impact Fitness.
“ We maintain a pipeline of fire departments, police departments and schools that have expressed interest in equipment donations. When it’ s time to re-equip, we select specific items that align well with current donation opportunities. If no suitable opportunities are available, we advise club managers to contact local municipalities to assess their equipment needs,” said Ashley Harden, project manager at Impact Fitness.
When providing the pieces to various organizations, there are best practices to ensure the equipment is donated in a timely manner.“ Once we have a remodel schedule and equipment delivery date, we coordinate with an extraction vendor and donation group to remove the old equipment before the new equipment arrives. The placement of the new equipment is a critical date on the project schedule, so regardless of any surprises that may come up beforehand, it is crucial to make sure the old equipment is extracted in a timely manner,” Schively said.“ It is important to communicate with the donation organization and extraction vendor the number and type of pieces being extracted to ensure they have the resources available to make it happen.” conclusion
Remodels and re-equips take hard work from a lot of different teams inside and outside the PF club, making communication and working together vital.
“ Consistent communication from vendors, contractors and staff will always help to facilitate a smooth process during any in-club event. Get to know your installers, learn their names, offer assistance as needed and build some rapport! These are connections that will benefit you over the years and make each time easier than the next,” said VanMeter.
Along with communication, looking out for the needs of members will help improve the member experience.“ Stay positive and communicate as much as possible with the members. We alert them of days where they may be painting in case they are sensitive to smell and offer ear plugs at the front desk for members on louder construction days if we remain open,” said Newman.
In the end, being proactive in planning and communication is paramount throughout the re-equip and remodel process.
“ Thorough planning and preparation are essential for remodels and re-equips,” Harden said.“ While unforeseen challenges may arise, successful outcomes depend on effective teamwork, problemsolving and open communication among all involved parties.” G
