BCOT PREPARING THE OFFICERS OF TOMORROW

As Correctional Officers with the Department of Corrections, these men and women go through rigorous training for five weeks. During their training, they are put to the test, and apply their physical and mental assets to complete their training.
Basic Correctional Officer Training( BCOT) is a comprehensive and mandated training course for all Correctional Officers, required by the Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training( POST). This training equips all Correctional Officers with the necessary skills and knowledge, including 40 hours of firearms training, 10 practical exams, and seven written test, to become peace officer certified.
Their training teaches them to work better together, learn how to become change agents, take ownership of their position, and accomplish the mission of protecting the public while operating secure facilities and providing offender rehabilitation.
The career path at GDC does not stop at the position of Correctional Officer. In this field, the sky is the limit, and there are many opportunities for growth and advancement.
