OVERVIEW | 2025 IMPACT REPORT 2
METROPOLITAN WASHINGTON AIRPORTS AUTHORITY

A Message from Our President and Chief Executive Officer

At the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, safe and responsible operations, sound fi nancial management and a strong focus on customer service, workforce development and corporate citizenship are the foundations of our success. Every initiative we undertake is designed to advance our mission to serve the traveling public, support regional economic growth and be a good neighbor to our surrounding communities.
The Airports Authority recorded record-high passenger traffi c in 2025, serving more than 54 million travelers at Reagan National and Dulles International airports. With Reagan National’ s eight airlines serving more than 100 cities and nearly 50 airlines at Dulles serving over 100 domestic and 65 international destinations, our two-airport system is the Washington, D. C., area’ s gateway to the world.
The year ended on a much higher note, however, with strong business growth and an initiative by the federal government to enhance our ongoing effort to modernize Dulles International, which opened in 1962 as the fi rst U. S. commercial airport designed for the jet age. Now, more than six decades later, preparations for a major construction program to transform Dulles into a state-of-the-art“ airport of the future” are well underway with our airline partners and the U. S. Department of Transportation.
This report chronicles the Airports Authority’ s efforts during 2025 in many business areas – including fi nancial management, customer service, sustainability and environmental stewardship, workforce development, ethical governance and community engagement – as we pursue our mission of public service and economic growth in America’ s dynamic and fast-growing National Capital Region.
Sincerely,
Our airports also serve as key economic drivers. While more than 55,000 people work on our airport campuses, the Airports Authority’ s business activities support about 200,000 jobs across the region. Our operations contribute more than $ 35 billion in annual economic activity, including spending by visitors and tax revenue generated for state and local governments.
Despite these noteworthy achievements in 2025, the year had a tragic beginning when an Army helicopter collided with a passenger jet approaching Reagan National in January, claiming 67 lives. We mourn the loss of these passengers and crew members, and our thoughts are with the families, friends and colleagues of all those affected. We are forever indebted to the fi rst responders from across the region who rushed to the airport that night. The incident has led to a renewed focus by the federal government to enhance airspace safety in Washington, D. C., and nationwide.
