EDINA
COMMUNITY GUIDE 2025
First responders are eager, ready to serve
The Edina Fire Department is an active and committed team whose mission is to serve the community by protecting lives, property and the environment in a safe, efficient and professional manner.
From extinguishing fires, to structural collapse rescues and hazardous material responses, the Edina Fire Department is at the ready all day, every day.
The department is headed by Fire Chief Andrew Slama. Other department leadership includes a fire marshal, a training and safety chief, an operations chief, three fire inspectors and four fire captains.
In addition to putting out fires, the department looks to prevent them in the first place. The fire prevention division has three fire inspectors and can often be seen promoting fire safety through presentations in classrooms.
The Fire Department also enforces the state fire code by regularly inspecting the city’ s commercial buildings and multi-family housing units, checking for working fire alarms, sprinklers and more.
A new fire station in Edina is gearing up to open its doors.
To meet the growing safety needs of residents, the city is replacing its Fire Station No. 2 with a $ 47.3 million project that will blend firefighting with public health work.
Dubbed the Community Health and Safety Center, the complex will house apparatus bays, work spaces and living quarters for the firefighters who will be spending nights and days there. The other section will house public health offices and community spaces.
The new 33,578-square-foot fire station can be found at 4401 W. 76th St. Replacing Fire Station No. 2, which had no ability to expand, will ensure that the city’ s fire department is able to meet increasing service demands and continue to provide quick and reliable responses.
Construction for the fire station started spring 2024 and is expected to conclude at the end of 2025.
