EDINA

COMMUNITY GUIDE 2025

Edina is in trusted hands

Day or night, rain or shine, Edina residents can count on the city’ s dedicated police department to spring into action.
By working around the clock to protect Edina residents, these personnel play an essential role in helping the city maintain its reputation as a safe place to live.
The Edina Police Department – led by Chief Todd Milburn – is constantly adapting and evolving to stay on top of public safety issues, working with community leaders and implementing new programs such as its Alternative Response Team, a pilot safety program created in response to a growing need for on-demand social services.
A partnership between Edina, Richfield and Hennepin County, the Alternative Response Team kicked off in June 2024 and offers more solutions for those facing mental health emergencies. If an officer, firefighter or paramedic responds to a mental health crisis call, they can request the new team to help handle the situation, providing more resources to those in crisis.
The department works diligently to ensure citizen and community safety. To keep up with an increase of activity, the Edina Police opened a new substation in the Southdale Center. The substation includes one office for two retail crime investigators who respond to all shoplifting and crimes at businesses throughout the city.
Milburn oversees 62 sworn officers, most of whom work in the patrol division that watches over the city streets and highways across Edina’ s 16 square miles.
Housed in the Edina City Hall, the 25,000-square-foot police station includes a state-of-the-art 911 communications center, where a team of dispatchers work 24 / 7 to help keep residents safe from harm and respond to emergencies. Dispatchers receive over 55,000 calls each year, issue 18,000 citations annually and make 300 DWI arrests each year.
With 92 % of residents rating the city’ s police services as excellent or good, it is no wonder Edina has a reputation as one of the safest places to live in the metro area.
