Art Center expands horizons
The Eden Prairie Art Center has one central mission: To enhance the quality of life and foster creativity in the community by providing access to the arts for people of all ages and abilities.
Through the center, anyone interested in trying something new, discovering a fun new hobby or broadening their creative horizons will find themselves in the right place.
From all-day art camps in a variety of topics for the young ones to evenings at the art center for creative adults of all experience levels, the center hosts an extensive catalog of programs to provide for a wide range of interests, skill levels and age groups.
The creative possibilities are endless for children from all age groups with opportunities to explore a myriad of artistic processes, like clay play, fused glass, printmaking, fiber, drawing and painting, or the many artistic mediums out there, like charcoal, color pencils, pen, ink and watercolor.
There is always an opportunity for a new art project or a space to connect at the center. The location also operates as a gathering space for local artists to create and collaborate. Open studio times are available year-round to all students actively taking a class or to pre-approved members to work on projects.
Those looking for one-on-one support will find private lessons led by teaching artists for ages six and up. Lessons include, but are not limited to: ceramics, fused or flame-worked glass, drawing, painting, cold metal jewelry work, fiber / weaving, paper making and more.
Teaching artists can also make themselves available for those seeking private group classes and birthday parties. Anyone can peruse a list of classes and activities or request a special class designed just for your group.
Each year, the Art Center is at the helm of several popular community events. The Art Center Youth Open House takes place each spring and offers children and their families an opportunity to get a closer look at the facilities, receive information about upcoming classes, observe demonstrations and get a start on their own hands-on projects. Another event geared toward teens and adults is also available every fall. Arts in the Park is the city’ s daylong art fair at Purgatory Creek Park, featuring artwork, homemade beauty products, unique clothing and more for sale by local and regional artisans.
