The Dakota City Heritage Village outdoor museum comes alive during the 2025 Dakota County Fair in Farmington.
The village’ s mission is to connect current generations to the life and agricultural heritage of early 20th century in rural Dakota County through education and interpretation.
The Dakota County Fair welcomes fairgoers Aug. 4-10, and the free 1900s museum and village is open 10 a. m. to 8 p. m. every day.
The village, located on the west side end of the fairgrounds, offers fairgoers the chance to stroll through 22 buildings that once stood in towns across Dakota County. showcases
Fairgoers can tour and experience the feeling of stepping back in time. Each historic building represents a typical Minnesota town in the early 1900s.
The village offers cool spots to take breaks during the fair on a bench under a shade tree or a church pew inside the country church.
The McMenomy House and Harris House offer visitors a glimpse into a home. Volunteer demonstrators show and tell how cooking was done on a wood stove, along with demonstrating domestic arts and crafts handiwork. The one-room village schoolhouse shows children’ s desks lined up to face the teacher’ s desk near a blackboard.
