Surrounded by the beauty of the renovated Duke Mansion( now called White Oaks Conference Center) over 70 of the Jewish Federation’ s Major Donors gath ered in early November to kick off the 1999 Annual Community Campaign. The mansion provided the perfect backdrop for the words of Ama Poupko, keynote speaker for the evening who talked to the group about the importance of their commitment to leading Jewish lives and the role that Tzedakah plays in this effort. The program for the evening included recognition of the new Major Donors to the 1999 Campaign.“ We were so pleased to be able to announce and honor the men and women who have made their commitments to the 1999 Campaign and acknowledge those who have joined the ranks of our Major Givers” said Meg Goldstein, who chairs this year’ s fundraising effort.“ Thus far we have two new men joining the Majors category( men making a minimum contribution of $ 10,000), Jerry Levin and Dan Peck. The women have also con tinued to make great strides this year. Sandra Levine has become an Emerald Lion of Judah( con tributing $ 25,000), Stacy Gorelick and Helene Levine have become Ruby Lions of Judah( contributing $ 10,000) and we have six now Lions of Judah( contributing $ 5000)- Jill Newman, Marlene Rosenbaum, Rachel Goodman, Barbara Levin, Marcelle Peck and Jody Speizman. We are very grateful to these individuals and to all of our contributors for support ing the campaign and helping Jews here in Charlotte and around the world”. The anchor event for the 1999 campaign,“ Beyond the Galaxy, A Star Filled Evening with Leonard Nimoy,” will be held on January 30th at the Marriott City Center and is being underwritten by First Union.
