Championing public health

Residents have access to many services promoting, protecting and improving their health through Bloomington’ s Public Health Division.
Whether it’ s through direct services to individuals and families or policies that improve the population’ s health, the Public Health Division facilitates many health initiatives throughout the year.
Many public health services are offered at the Public Health Center, 1900 W. Old Shakopee Road. Preventive services such as health screenings and immunizations are offered at low to no cost. Available services by appointment( weekdays only) include free blood pressure screenings and $ 40 tuberculin skin tests( testing for tuberculosis).
The Public Health Division offers immunizations to individuals who are uninsured or underinsured through the Minnesota Vaccines for Children program and the Uninsured and Underinsured Adult Vaccines program.
Immunization clinics are offered from 12:30 to 4 p. m. the first
and third Tuesday of the month. There is a $ 20 donation requested per vaccination, although no one will be turned away if unable to pay.
The Women, Infants and Children( WIC) Supplemental Nutrition Program provides nutrition education, breastfeeding and chestfeeding counseling and food benefits for eligible people who are pregnant, postpartum or have children up to 5 years of age. To schedule a WIC appointment, call 952-563- 8993.
To bring health services to more residents, Public Health has rolled out a mobile community health hub in the three communities it serves: Bloomington, Edina and Richfield. Offerings include immunizations, screenings, WIC appointments and more.
