Utilising Technology and Behaviour to Manage Fatigue in the Workplace

Fatigue detection technology( FDT) was evaluated for its effectiveness in preventing crashes. Research commissioned by the AAA guided attendees on how to integrate FDT with behavioural programs to improve driver alertness and safety outcomes.

Jerome Carslake, National Road Safety Partnership Program( NRSPP) Jerome Carslake is the Director of the National Road Safety Partnership Program( NRSPP) which is delivered by the Monash University Accident Research Centre. Jerome has extensive knowledge in workplace road safety management, program delivery and the collaborative development of solutions. Jerome’ s origins are from the northern wheat belt of Western Australia and his background is in agricultural science, project management, strategic research and stakeholder engagement. His passion in teamwork and collaboration originate from his rowing at an elite level as both a rower and coach. The development of NRSPP draws on all of these skills with the program steadily expanding and promoting a positive road safety culture in the workplace.
Craig Newland, Australian Automobile Association( AAA) Craig Newland has worked at the Australian Automobile Association for 16 years. As the Director – Policy and Research, he leads the team responsible for the development of the AAA’ s evidence-based policies, underpinned by research and data on topics including safety, equity and sustainability, as well as the AAA Road Safety Research Program. The AAA’ s constituent member clubs are the NRMA, RACV, RACQ, RAA, RAC, RACT and AANT. The AAA represents consumer interests and is an apolitical and technology-neutral advocate for federal transport policy that improves safety, equity, and sustainability. Craig is a mechanical engineer and has previously been involved with research into magnesiumbased alloys, as well as working in airbag development and crash testing for a Tier 1 automotive supplier, and vehicle standards research and development for the Australian Government.
