school career at CPA. Grades for upper school courses taken in middle school( Algebra, Geometry, or World Language) are shown on the transcript but do not reduce the 24 credits required for graduation. In addition, grades received in these courses are not included in the cumulative upper school GPA or in class ranking.
The cumulative GPA released to colleges in the fall of the senior year is based upon six semesters and is adjusted after the seventh semester( fall of senior year). Highly selective colleges will use the seventh semester transcript in their enrollment decisions. All college transcripts are accompanied by a school profile and a copy of our grading scale.
RANK IN CLASS Class rank is determined based on a 4.0 scale, with quality points added to the semester grade score( 0.5 quality points for Honors and 1.0 quality points for Advanced Placement courses). This information is for CPA use only, and is not shared with other schools or individuals.
Only CPA courses are used to determine class rank. At least 50 percent of a student’ s credits must be earned at CPA and must include the first semester of the senior year to be designated as valedictorian or salutatorian. To be eligible, a student must have arrived at CPA by the beginning of the second semester of their Sophomore year. Class rankings are calculated utilizing grades earned at CPA through the end of the first semester of Senior year.
Admission to Honors and AP Courses
Enrollment in an honors or AP course requires a teacher recommendation from the subject teacher at the time of registration. In the absence of a teacher recommendation, students and parents must complete and submit a recommended course override form.
DIPLOMAS There are three types of diplomas: College Preparatory, Honors, and I Learning Services.
COLLEGE PREPARATORY DIPLOMA The College Preparatory Diploma will be awarded to students who earn the specified 24 units of credit for graduation.
HONORS DIPLOMA In order to qualify for an Honors Diploma, a student must meet the requirements for a College Preparatory Diploma, with a minimum cumulative Christ Presbyterian Academy GPA of 3.5. In addition, at least 14 credits must be taken at the Honors or AP level.
