PHYSICAL EDUCATION COURSES
Physical Education 6
[ every other day ] Major Outcomes : To provide students with developmentally appropriate learning opportunities with meaningful content and instruction . All students will develop health-related fitness , physical competence , cognitive understanding , and positive attitudes about physical activity that promote a healthy and physically active lifestyle .

MEDIA ART
Digital Productions
[ media arts elective , every other day ] This course teaches students how to create and manipulate digital images , work with video and sound to express themselves , and convey ideas to a real-world audience . Students will use a variety of software applications and multimedia hardware while working with digital photography , animation and movie making individually and in small groups . Learning is project-based and will require students to develop their ideas outside of class sometimes working on projects in the lab beyond the regular school day . Therefore , this course is best for a creative student who possesses selfdiscipline , motivation , and excellent timemanagement skills .
VISUAL ART
Art 6
[ visual arts elective , every other day ] Major Outcomes :
• Develop an understanding of the foundations of art
• Explore world cultures and artists Projects / Activities : Activities may include drawing , clay , sculpture , painting , printmaking , and working with a variety of other materials . Instructional Focus : Instruction includes teacher-guided art demonstrations ; individual and / or group art projects ; and opportunities for reflection and revising artwork .

Band 6
[ music elective , every other day ] Major Outcomes :
• Learn the beginning elements of playing a band instrument .
• Produce a characteristic tone and perform in an ensemble .
Projects / Activities : Perform in concerts and independent practice . Instructional Focus : Group instruction .
Choir 6
[ music elective , every other day ] Major Outcomes :
• Learn to use the elements of quality singing .
• Collaborate as an ensemble to prepare and perform music .
• Perform a variety of styles of music from different cultures and historical periods .
• Study the elements of music and gain reading and notating skills .
Instructional Focus : Group instruction .
Music Studies
[ music elective , every other day ] Major Outcomes :
• Learn the beginning elements of music such as melody , harmony , notation , texture , style , rhythm , and form .
• Explore the basics of music and listen to and analyze various musical genres
Projects / Activities : Various projects Instructional Focus : Group instruction .
Orchestra 6
[ arts elective , every other day ] Major Outcomes :
• Learn the beginning elements of playing an orchestra instrument .
• Produce good tone and perform in an ensemble .
Projects / Activities : Perform in concerts , create an original composition and independent practice . Instructional Focus : Group instruction .
ASSISTANCE FOR STUDENTS MULTILINGUAL LEARNERS [ ML ] COURSES
Qualifying Multilingual Learners will be placed in an English Learner [ EL ] course inplace of a grade-level English Language Arts [ ELA ] course ; or an English Language Development [ ELD ] course in place of a grade-level elective course . This placement is based on state and district test scores and teacher recommendations . MATH FOUNDATIONS AND / OR READING STRATEGIES
[ full year ] Qualifying students will be placed in a math or reading intervention course in addition to their grade-level English and Math course . Students are recommended for these intervention courses based on state and district test scores , as well as teacher recommendation . For more information , please contact your school counselor .
SPECIAL EDUCATION
Students with disabilities will be placed in support services courses as determinedby their special education needs relating to their disability as outlined in theirIndividual Education Plan [ IEP ].
