Scholarships, Grants and Loans
Undergraduate Students Scholarships and Grants Scholarships and grants are considered“ gift” aid, which means the funding does not need to be repaid. However, some of this funding may require that students meet certain requirements. For example, recipients of university scholarships must be enrolled on a full-time basis and must have full-time tuition charges assessed on their billing statement( recipients of tuition waivers may not be considered for university scholarships in addition to waivers). In addition, institutional scholarships and grants can be awarded for a maximum of eight semesters for students pursuing a bachelor’ s degree.
Financial aid received from public and / or private, external sources must be reported to the Financial Aid Office. This may require an adjustment in either the total amount and / or kind of aid provided in the student’ s financial aid package.
Merit Awards for Full-Time Campus Undergraduate Students Gwynedd Mercy University offers several MERIT AWARDS, which are based on a student’ s academic record and / or involvement in extra-curricular / community service activities. These Awards are offered to new, first-degree, or transfer campus undergraduate students who will be enrolled full-time.
Students who qualify for Merit Awards will be notified at the time of admission to the University. Merit awards may be renewed for two more( transfer students) or three( first-year students) years if recipients continue to meet eligibility requirements. The Merit Award will be the first component of any need-based financial aid award.
Athletic Scholarships As a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association( NCAA), Division III, the University does not consider athletic ability in the awarding of scholarships and grants.
Institutional Grant Funding Eligibility for Institutional Grant funding is based on a student’ s financial need, which is based on the results of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid( FAFSA). Need-based institutional aid is contingent on full-time, on-campus enrollment in a university degree program, and satisfactory academic progress.
Federal Pell Grant The Pell Grant is a federal aid program, which provides grant funding depending on the student’ s eligibility as determined by the results of the FAFSA using federal methodology. To receive consideration, the student must submit a completed FAFSA and be enrolled for at least three credits per semester in a degree or certificate program. The Student Financial Aid Office will include available Pell Grant Funding as part of an eligible student’ s comprehensive financial aid package.
