Each year, schools are required to notify the student and parents of their rights under FERPA. At Gwynedd Mercy University, the student is notified through the distribution of the Undergraduate and Graduate Catalogs. A parent or eligible student may file a written complaint with the Office regarding an alleged violation under the Act and this part. The Office ' s address is: Family Policy Compliance Office, U. S. TITLE IX Pregnancy
Gwynedd Mercy University does not discriminate on the basis of pregnancy, pregnancy-related conditions, and parental, familial, or marital status. The University welcomes and supports pregnant and lactating students as well as students experiencing pregnancy-related conditions, such as childbirth, recovery from pregnancy, termination of pregnancy, lactation, and medical conditions related to any of the above. Gwynedd Mercy University makes reasonable modifications for students experiencing pregnancy or related conditions. Regularly approved modifications may include restroom breaks, lactation breaks, excused absences for medical appointments, and preferred seating assignments, as well as modifications responsive to individualized requests and supported by medical documentation, including voluntary leaves of absence and voluntary access to comparable portions of missed programs / activities and access to lactation spaces. Where appropriate, students may be given an opportunity to make up missed work. Extended deadlines, makeup assignments, and incomplete grades that can be completed at a later date( if agreed between instructor and student) may all be utilized. Leaves and accommodations related to pregnancy and pregnancy-related medical conditions are available to the same extent as those related to other temporary disabilities or physical conditions. In situations where the temporal particularities of the task do not allow for a " break " such as large performances and some labs, clinical assignments, and group work, the student may be granted access to comparable portions of any missed programs / activities available.
Faculty and staff who learn of a student’ s pregnancy or related condition should tell the student how to contact the Title IX Coordinator for assistance and should provide the Title IX Coordinator’ s contact information to the student.
