Psychology of Nonviolence
This SERVICE-LEARNING course presents the issues of interpersonal( domestic / sexual) and intrapersonal( self-injury / suicide) violence through a psychological lens with a special focus on mental health, social justice, advocacy for affected populations, and strategies for the promotion of NONVIOLENCE, a Critical Concern of the Sisters of Mercy. Students will engage in discussion, research related topics, participate in mandatory violence prevention training, and work with community partners( on and off campus) to create and implement community action / advocacy plans to promote nonviolence. NOTE: To fulfill the requirements of the course, students will engage in a minimum of 12 meaningful direct or indirect service hours in support of populations affected. Due to the sensitive nature of the material presented, this course is recommended for students in their second year and above. This course meets the University ' s definition of writing intensive. Pre-Requisite: Successful completion of ENG 101.
