Brave New Words: the Rhetoric of Social
This course explores and analyzes moments of persuasion critical to the advance of a variety of social justice movements, both historical and contemporary. Through the foundational lens of Aristotle ' s Rhetoric, students will study and analyze documents, speeches, and protest-actions of such movements as the English Civil War, the American Revolution, American Abolition, American and British Suffrage, the Civil Rights movement, the gay rights movement, the # metoo movement, Black Lives Matter, and contemporary political debate. Students will craft their own persuasive arguments regarding the future of rhetorical strategies in social justice movements, with particular focus on the impact of social media and advances in AI technology. Students will investigate and answer the question: how can we, as a society, move towards greater social justice through rhetorical actions in ethically-sound ways?

Infinity, Paradox, and Reason
An introduction to the concept of the infinite, paradoxes that surround it, and the attempt to make sense of it through logic and reason. The course will include historical, philosophical, and scientific perspectives on the concept of infinity, with a primary focus on how mathematics deals with it in theory, and how it is used in models of the real world. Questions that will be considered include: Is infinity a number? How can some infinities be bigger than others? Does the infinite appear in our physical universe? How can we add together infinitely many things and yet get a finite result? No mathematics beyond the high school level will be assumed. Pre-requisite: ENG101. May be taken for Math credit. Satisfies either a Math or philosophy elective in General Education, and " Mathematics " within the Honors Program.

Korean Language and Culture
This course introduces students to Korean language and culture. It will provide basic skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing by learning writing system, pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar. Through various interactive engagement and experiential learning, students will be exposed to Korean traditional instruments, art, food, traditions, and Korean popular culture that includes K-pop, and K-drama. In addition, the course focuses on immigration, one of the five critical concerns of the Sisters of Mercy and meets the University’ s definition of writing intensive. Through examining websites, watching videos, reading articles, and writing reflections / papers, language will be explored in relation to its culture and society.
