Gwynedd Mercy University 2025-2026 University Catalog 31
transcript. GMercyU courses completed prior to re-admission with a grade of C or above will be reviewed by the appropriate department in the same manner as courses transferred from colleges / universities outside of GMercyU to determine if and how the credits should be applied. Grades earned in these courses will not be calculated into the GPA. Loss of course credit( s) resulting from academic amnesty will not, under any circumstances, constitute grounds for a tuition refund. Students who are granted academic amnesty must meet all degree requirements for graduation at the time of reapplication for admission.
Placement Assessment for Writing and Mathematics NOTE: Does not apply to students enrolled in 2 nd Degree ABSN.
To ensure that every student admitted to GMercyU is prepared to succeed in college-level courses, many of which require advanced writing and mathematics skills, the University requires that new firstyear, transfer, and non-matriculated students take the GMercyU placement assessments for English and mathematics before registering for their first semester unless they meet any of the exemptions below.
Students are exempt from taking the respective placement exam if they meet one of the following exemptions:
• A score of at least three( 3) on the Advanced Placement Test in English( Language and Composition) and / or mathematics( Calculus or Statistics)
• A score of at least 35 on the SAT Reading test
• A score of at least 680 on the SAT Evidence-based Reading and Writing Section and / or Math Section
• A score of at least 29 on the ACT English Test and / or Math Test
• Transfer credits for college-level English composition courses or college-level mathematics courses( earned grade of C or better) through the official acceptance of transfer credits by the Registrar’ s Office at GMercyU
Students will have access to online placement assessments through Canvas within one week of making their admission deposit. The assessments are available through the GMercyU Portal with login credentials. The online placement assessments include objective questions in mathematics. The English placement assessment includes reading comprehension questions, a summary response essay, and reflection questions. The assessments are untimed, and retests are not permitted.
Students will discuss their results with their advisors at the time of course registration. Students ' test results indicate whether they may register for ENG 100-WS Critical Reading and Writing Workshop or ENG100 Critical Reading and Writing, depending on the exact placement score. Students whose mathematics scores indicate they are prepared for college-level mathematics may register for most courses that require mathematics skills; courses that require higher-level mathematic skills are identified by a course prerequisite. Students who do not meet the math level for their major or the prerequisite level for a course, must take either MTH 002, Developmental Mathematics or MTH 003, Bridge to Mathematics( as determined by their advisor) before enrolling in college-level mathematics and other courses that have mathematics components.
