Gwynedd Mercy University 2025-2026 University Catalog 23
Graduate students whose cumulative grade point average drops below 3.0 are considered to be on academic probation and will receive notice from the Dean. Any student earning below the minimum grade point average for two semesters or earning three“ C’ s”( 2.0) will be dismissed from the program. Students who receive any grade below a“ C”(< 2.0) will be dismissed from the program. Students may repeat a course once; failure to pass a repeated course is grounds for dismissal.
Individual graduate programs may have additional or more specific requirements. Students should consult the program section in this catalog or their program handbook for more information.
Once enrolled, students are expected to be enrolled continuously thereafter until degree completion. To remain in good academic standing, graduate students must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 for all work completed at GMercyU. A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is required in order to graduate. Information on warning, probation and dismissal policies is specified in the academic program sections of the catalog.
All Programs Each degree program stipulates satisfactory minimum grades with regard to its own major and certain general education courses. See more specific details of program degree requirements in the course listing section of each academic area. Should a student fail to meet these program-specific grade requirements, the College Dean or Program Director in which the student is matriculated may dismiss the student from the program. Students who are dismissed from their program of study under these conditions, but who have a satisfactory cumulative GPA based on the University’ s policy of Academic Progress, may continue their education if they are accepted into University Studies or another degree program by the Dean of that program.
Students who have more than 60 credits may be enrolled in the University Studies program for no more than two consecutive semesters before declaring a major. If, after two semesters in University Studies, a student is not accepted into a major, the student may continue as a non-matriculated, part-time student.
Grade Appeals Students who believe that their final course grade is not correct must follow the procedure described in the flow chart below, beginning with the first-level appeal to the instructor. The student is required to provide documentation supporting the appeal and to show that their work warranted the grade they seek. The appeal must include evidence that the faculty member did not follow grading or other policies in the course syllabus, as well as dates and summaries of all other meetings or attempted meetings with the instructor to resolve the concern.
All email communication must be conducted via the student’ s, instructor’ s, and administrator’ s GMercyU account; communication from non-GMercyU email accounts will not be accepted.
NOTE: If a student is concurrently appealing an academic integrity violation and the final grade for the same course, the grade complaint process will pause until the academic integrity violation appeal process is completed. Appeals must be submitted separately; combined academic integrity violation and final grade appeals will not be considered. Students are encouraged to consult with their academic advisor if they have questions about any appeal process.
