All accepted transfer credits must have received a grade of C or better. C- is not an acceptable grade for transfer. Transfer students accepted into the BSW program with less than a 2.5 GPA will have one semester to increase their GPA to a 2.5.
Students who are graduates of associate degree programs in human services or social work from colleges or universities that have articulation agreements with the BSW program will be admitted as per the agreement. All social work course credits must be earned in courses at regionally accredited colleges and universities. No social work credit is given for life experience or previous work experience.
Academic Standards / Grade Requirements: Students in the BSW major must maintain a 2.5 or better grade point average to remain in the program. Students who fall below the minimum GPA will be placed on probation and allowed one semester to rise to the minimum GPA. If the student is unable to do so in one semester, they will be dismissed from the program at the discretion of the Program Director, Director of Field Education, and Dean of the College.
Attendance Policies( including Lab / Clinical Attendance Policies): Each instructor will have their own class attendance policy in the course syllabus. However, regular class attendance is essential to learning the skills and competencies necessary for social work practice. It is also important that you arrive on time. If students have to miss a class, they must inform their professor ahead of time, as they would inform an employer about missing work. Arriving late regularly can affect students’ learning and course grades.

If the student is not able to earn a C or better in the repeated class, they are dismissed from the program. Any student who receives below a C in three courses in the major will be dismissed from the program.
Students whose overall GPA drops below 2.5 will receive a letter from the program director notifying them that they have one semester to obtain the necessary 2.5 GPA to remain in the Social Work program. Should the student not be able to increase their overall GPA to a 2.5, the student will receive a letter of dismissal from the BSW program from the program director and directed to the professional advisors to discuss other majors within the university available to them.
