• Maintenance of a 3.0 overall GPA;
• Receive the recommendation of the Teacher Education Committee of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Professional Studies;
• Receive the recommendation of the Dean of the College of Arts, Sciences and Professional Studies.
The Privilege of Student Teaching includes:
• Formal acceptance into the program and the relevant certification program( s);
• Submission of the formal application for student teaching and all necessary documentation, including clearances, to accompany the application prior to the February due date;
• Completion of ALL course work prior to the student teaching semester;
• Acceptance of the recommendation of the Teacher Education Committee of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Professional Studies;
• Successful completion of the pre-student teaching experience with an earned grade of a minimum of a C +.
Removal from a Pre-Student or Student Teaching Placement: Students are assigned one( 16-week) or two( eight weeks each) field experience( s) for Student Teaching. If a student is withdrawn from a field experience at the request of the assigned school administrator, the student will receive a grade of F for that specific experience. The school administrator will have reached the decision to request removal of the student teacher in collaboration with the cooperating teacher and the GMercyU field supervisor. The student may be permitted to repeat the student teaching experience the following semester if recommended by the GMercyU field supervisor, the GMercyU student advisor, and the Coordinator of Field Placement. The recommendation must be approved by the Dean of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Professional Studies. If the recommendation is that the student not repeat student teaching, the student will complete their program in Education Studies.
Non-Academic Criteria for Admission, Progression and Retention Compliance Requirements and Clearances Required for All Fieldwork:
Child Abuse History Clearance All students enrolled in the Education Programs are required to have a Child Abuse History Clearance. This is accomplished by completing a Child Abuse History Clearance Form. Application is available online at https:// www. compass. state. pa. us / cwis / publich / home. A copy of the form must be submitted to the Field Experience Coordinator by the beginning of each academic year.
Criminal Record Check All students enrolled in the Education Programs are required to have a Criminal History Record Check. This is accomplished by completing a Request for Criminal Record Check form. Forms are available online at: https:// epatch. pa. gov / home. A copy of the form must be submitted to the Field Experience Coordinator before the first day of class.
FBI Fingerprinting Check All students in the Education Programs are required to submit an FBI Record. The registration information is available online at: https:// www. indentogo. com / Service Code: 1KG6RT
