As always , Michael is the first to deflect credit for the progress toward better treatments and a cure for Parkinson ’ s , giving gratitude for and recognizing the worldwide Parkinson ’ s community . When asked for his thoughts on the momentum for research driven by the new tools and other discoveries , he commented that the work has never been about him . “ Seeing the progress we ’ ve made and the lives we ’ ve touched through the Foundation has been one of the greatest privileges of my life ,” he said .

The sense of optimism for which Michael is so renowned also is baked into the Foundation ’ s DNA . As we embark on our 25th year and cross the $ 2-billion mark in research funded , our singular goal remains to find a cure and close our doors as quickly as possible .
We have the biomarker we sought for years , and it is throwing open the doors to the next biological research tools that we need . The growing list of research breakthroughs speaks to the extraordinary era we find ourselves in . And the community is engaged as never before .
As we look ahead , we have a clear roadmap for progress , a distinguishing factor in the journey to a cure . Yet we are sober about the work that remains , and clear-eyed about the resources that will be required — an anticipated $ 2.5 billion in funding over the next five years — to continue pushing science toward next-generation treatments and , ultimately , the eradication of Parkinson ’ s altogether . Now more than ever , the support of the people who have gotten us to this point — our dedicated and passionate community — will be critical , as will new and increased support . We look ahead with hope and optimism , and with gratitude for your partnership , as together we continue navigating into a bright future .
