North Memorial a pillar in trauma care
Robbinsdale ’ s North Memorial Health Hospital has served residents in the west metro for more than 80 years .
Since earning its distinction as a Level One Trauma Center 25 years ago , the hospital has treated nearly 50,000 patients within a 500-mile radius with a 97 % survival rate . Aside from the trauma center , the hospital offers 44 other care and service areas .
In 1939 , Dr . Samuel Samuelson built Victory Hospital on property he owned in Robbinsdale . In a time when most hospitals were located in downtown Minneapolis and St . Paul to be closer to physicians ’ offices , building a facility in the suburbs was a bold step . Samuelson envisioned the healthcare needs of a growing community , and it was the first suburban hospital in Minnesota to admit patients .
In 1954 , Victory became North Memorial Hospital when it was reorganized as a private , nonprofit hospital . During the next 50 years , several expansion projects would take North Memorial to a 518-bed facility . The first totally integrated , hospital-based medical transportation system in Minnesota now includes nine helicopters , 105 ambulances and a system that includes more than 900 doctors and 5,000 employees .
The integrated system includes North Memorial Hospital , Maple Grove Hospital , 15 primary care clinics offering same-day and walk-in appointments , six urgent care clinics , four express clinics located within Hy-Vee grocery stores , two urgency centers and a broad range of expert specialty care providers . From maternity to senior care , North Memorial ’ s team delivers all aspects of life by providing primary and specialty care for the prevention , diagnosis and treatment of complex medical conditions .
North Memorial Health clinics became under partial ownership by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota in 2020 . Due to its breadth of services , the hospital is often considered first for groundbreaking technologies . North Memorial Health Hospital in Robbinsdale became one of the first hospitals in the state to receive doses of the coronavirus vaccine , heralding the beginning of the end of the COVID-19 pandemic . At the time , spokesperson Katy Sullivan called the delivery “ a momentous step forward in the fight against COVID for healthcare workers and all Minnesotans .” For more information , visit northmemorial . com and allinahealth . org .
