School district serves thousands
Unlike the boundaries of some suburban school districts , the St . Louis Park School District ’ s boundaries closely align with the city ’ s border .
The St . Louis Park School Board , which operates independently of the city government , sets the policies for school programs .
Superintendent Dr . Carla Hines , working with school district staff members , carries out the board ’ s policy decisions . Hines was named the school ’ s new superintendent in the spring of 2024 .

School board elections are in November during odd-numbered years . Each board member is elected for a four-year term .
The district began with just 51 students in 1888 but burgeoned to more than 11,000 students by the mid-1960s , according to the St . Louis Park Historical Society . The school district currently serves more than 4,500 students .
As St . Louis Park ’ s residents grew older , enrollment gradually declined but eventually stabilized . The district serves city residents as well as students from nearby cities who open enroll in the district .
The district has three traditional elementary schools serving students in kindergarten through fifth grade . They are Aquila Elementary , 8500 W . 31st St .; Peter Hobart Elementary , 6500 W . 26th St .; and Susan Lindgren Elementary , 4801 W . 41st St . The schools are authorized participants of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme .
St . Louis Park also operates Park Spanish Immersion Elementary School at 9400 Cedar Lake Road for students in kindergarten through fifth grade . Students study the same curriculum as other district students with all classes taught in Spanish .
St . Louis Park Middle School , 2025 Texas Ave . S ., serves students in sixth through eighth grades . The school has gained International Baccalaureate authorization for the IB Middle Years Programme .
St . Louis Park High School , 6425 W . 33rd St ., serves students in grades 9-12 . The school offers advanced placement and honors courses , an International Baccalaureate program , mentoring and apprenticeship opportunities , an extensive program for deaf and hard-of-hearing students and assistance for English as a second language students .
